Amazon has an FSA Store frontend which includes thousands of items that are eligible FSA/HSA expenses. However, the majority of the eligible items on Amazon are not marked as eligible so shopping for the best items that can be reimbursed from your FSA/HSA accounts can be tricky.
This guide will walk you through how to identify FSA eligible products, where to look on your Amazon receipt, and what to do if an item isn’t clearly marked as FSA eligible.
Products Marked as Eligible By Amazon
Finding an Eligible Item In the Store
When shopping on Amazon, you can search for FSA eligible items by using specific filters. Start by typing keywords like “FSA eligible” or “HSA eligible” into the search bar. Once you’ve found an item you’re interested in, look for a note on the product page under the price that states: “Eligible for FSA or HSA.” This will confirm that you can use your FSA card for the purchase.
Eligible Item on an Amazon Receipt
After purchasing, you’ll receive an Amazon receipt via email or within your order history under "Your Orders." To confirm FSA eligibility:
- Check the product description on the receipt.
- Look for a small tag or note near the product name, similar to what you saw during the purchase process. It will say “FSA/HSA Eligible”
The bottom of the receipt will include a summary of all FSA in this order (see highlighted sections below)
Eligible Products Not Marked By Amazon
Due to multiple reasons, the majority of the eligible items on Amazon are not marked as eligible and therefore cannot be purchased with a Flexible Spending Debit Card. The example below includes 4 first aid kits that are sold on Amazon. All of these products are eligible but only one of them is marked as eligible by Amazon (the farthest to the right)
This makes it challenging to know what you can submit for reimbursement since it requires the buyer to understand FSA eligibility and submit items that are not marked as eligible to your FSA or HSA provider.
